In keeping with its mission of community service, The Richmond Ad Club chose ART 180 as
its charitable beneficiary for 2001. This is the first time in the history of both
organizations that such a partnership has been formed. The Richmond Ad Club is assisting
ART 180 through fundraisers, donations of creative time and resources.
ART 180 collaborates with social services organizations to provide arts programming to
children living in difficult circumstances. The students are encouraged to express
themselves by creating different types of art, including sculpture, poetry, photography,
painting and film. ART 180 then works to make sure their voice is heard in the community
through exhibits, publications, performances and public messages. Currently, ART 180 works
with Friends Association for Children (in the Gilpin public housing community), William
Byrd Community House (Oregon Hill), Flagler Home (a transitional home for mothers and
children at St. Joseph's Villa). ART 180 also partners with Weed & Seed of Richmond for
the semester-length Awareness Through The Arts, targeted to fifth through ninth graders
in the Gilpin, Blackwell and Whitcomb public housing communities.
You can get involved by volunteering, sponsoring a program or event, making a tax-deductible
financial contribution, donating art supplies, or sharing your ideas. To find out more, call
804-222-8180, e-mail 180@ART180.org or visit www.ART180.org. |
